The College offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and clubs at lunchtime or after school, and occasionally at weekends.
The College is not merely an academic factory and we feel it is important to ensure students have the chance to develop other talents and skills: physical, emotional, creative and social. For students applying to British or American universities, these extra-curricular activities are particularly important as colleges would expect to read about their extra-curricular interests and achievements.
A list of activities is published in September. Students in Years 1 - 2 are required to participate in at least one activity. Students in Years 3 - 6 are encouraged to participate – some ECAs can be utilized for their IB CAS requirement or the Personal Progress Profile.
Tutors will talk with their tutees about the activities they get involved in and, with awareness of any outside school commitments, work to ensure that all students are involved in at least one meaningful activity outside the classroom. We are very grateful for any parental encouragement to support this important aspect of school activity.
Most activities run from September to April and for 2011/12 activities on offer include Amnesty International, Art, Basketball, Beading, Ceramics, Charities, Chess, Choir, Composition, Concert Going, Creative Writing, Cricket, Debating, Drama, Duke of Edinburgh, Football, Jazz Appreciation, Life Drawing, Maths Competitions, Nature walks, Rock Band, Rock-climbing, Rugby, Table Tennis and World Music. A full list is available from Mrs Svejdova who compiles an annual booklet.
The House system allows for various competitions and events such as inter-house sports competitions and drama, art and music contests and we have competed against fellow Prague schools in skiing, tennis, swimming, football and athletics.
We also run several trips over the course of the year including Model United Nations, foreign exchanges and language trips, skiing weeks, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and community/charity projects.
A lecture programme takes place for senior students with prestigious speakers from outside the college from the worlds of business, politics, sports, NGOs, arts and academia.
Each year the College has a theme to the pastoral programme. In 2010/11 this was ‘The Tree.’ For 2011/12, in recognition of the London Olympics, it will be Olympiad.
