Q2. For how long can I borrow library materials?
A. Different materials can be borrowed for different periods:
  • Fours weeks for circulating books
  • One week for periodicals (most recent periodical does not circulate)
  • Over the weekend for videos (issued Friday and must be returned the following Monday). Or, watch a video in the library on our new t.v./video player!
  • Audio cassettes and CD-ROMs issued for a duration to be determined by librarian
Library materials can be issued for more or less time in exceptional circumstances, determined by the librarian.

Q3. What if I return something late?
A. You have to pay! We charge "overdue fines" for library materials that are returned late. We do this because, without the fines there were hundreds of library books overdue and little incentive to return them. You have to pay, for each day overdue:
  • Circulating books, CD-ROMs and audio cassettes: 2,-Kc per item per day
  • Videos: 10,-Kc per video per day
No borrower will be allowed to borrow any library materials if he/she has outstanding overdue library materials or outstand fines. Overdue charges for short-term, exceptional loans will be determined by the librarian at the time of the loan.

Q.4 What must I do to borrow a book?
A. You must present your ECP Identification card and have no overdue books or outstanding library fines, in order to borrow materials from the library. Without the identification card or if you have overdue materials or fines, you will not be able to borrow any library materials or textbooks.
(ECP Staff and External readers do not have an ID/library card. For more information read the Registration section in Circulation rules)

Q.5 How do I borrow textbooks from the library?
A. Most textbooks are issued when a teacher brings the whole class into the Library to pick up their class textbook. Textbooks are issued until the end of the period the teacher designates-usually the end of the school year. Again, you must present your ECP Identification card have no overdue books or outstanding library fines, in order to borrow textbooks. You can only borrow one copy of any textbook unless a teacher gives a written note to the librarians stating you can have another copy. BIG IMPORTANT NOTE: YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR EACH AND EVERY TEXTBOOK YOU BORROW. IF YOU LOSE YOUR COPY AND RETURN SOMEONE ELSE'S COPY, YOU WILL PAY FOR A REPLACEMENT. ALL TEXTBOOKS HAVE INDIVIDUAL BARCODES. TEXTBOOKS RETURNED WITHOUT BARCODES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR A REPLACEMENT.

Q.8 Can I reserve a book or video that someone else has borrowed and is not in the Library?
A. Yes. If you see that a book you want is already borrowed by someone else and wish to reserve this please see a librarian and he/she will reserve the book for you. Then, when the borrower returns the book, an automatic note will indicate that the book is reserved for you. The librarian will put the book aside for you. Videos cannot be reserved.
