For me, as a parent, the biggest advantage of the English College is communication. However important the other obvious benefits are – such as the teaching being in English, the highly professional background of the teachers, the excellent level of teaching – are, I personally value the attitude of the management, teachers and employees of the school the most, not only towards the students, but also towards the parents.

My personal experience is that whenever something  needed to be addressed, from relatively minor matters to those involving my child’s health, I always knew that I could communicate my needs openly and truthfully and that there was someone to turn to, someone who was listening, took the situation seriously and solved it.

I had the opportunity to be one of the founding members of the Parents’ Association and participate in the creation of ties between the school and parents and also between parents. The school management has always been open to our suggestions and there has always been an open way to find the best possible joint solution.

Last but not least, I must highlight the fact that all the teachers I had the opportunity to meet during my child’s studies were professionals in their field – educated, open, friendly, demanding and consistent, with respect for the fact that students themselves are responsible for their education and in this process they are mutual partners.

Catherine Morgan

Catherine Morgan

Head of Drama

Catherine graduated from Northumbria University before working as an actor and stage manager in Newcastle Upon Tyne. She moved home to Edinburgh, where she got a job at the International Film Festival. She began volunteering to teach film, acting and dance workshops with local youth groups. This led her to discover her love of teaching. She enrolled at Moray House, Edinburgh University where she gained her PGDE in Drama for Primary and Secondary Education.

Catherine moved to Mexico in 2010, where she led the Film, Theatre and Drama Department at the Edron Academy (El Colegio Británico, A.C.). This is when she first encountered the International Baccalaureate. By the end of her 5 years as Head of Department, she had a wealth of experience teaching IB Theatre, IB Literature and Performance and IB Film. She developed her knowledge of the courses by becoming an examiner for both IB Theatre and IB Literature and Performance. Catherine then moved back to Europe, to Munich, where she taught for another 4 years. During this time, she developed her pastoral leadership as the very first House System Coordinator.

In 2019, Catherine moved once more, back home to Scotland. This was a very new experience, as she worked, not only as a full-time Drama teacher, but as an Assistant Housemistress in the oldest boarding school in Scotland. This involved living-in with the pupils and gaining a great appreciation for their challenges during the global pandemic.

Catherine is looking forward to bringing her passion for Theatre to ECP. She is always interested to learn more about theatre traditions from around the world and is taken with Prague’s rich theatrical history and culture. Catherine is excited to bring more productions to ECP after a few years of heavy restrictions following the pandemic.

English College in Prague has managed to cultivate a sense of tradition and history in a relatively short period of time, whilst also being a very modern learning environment.  I really appreciate the unique combination of these dimensions, which sit comfortably side by side and inspire the students and the staff to nurture a friendly yet disciplined environment. Personal responsibility is strongly emphasised and forms the basis for academic, sporting, cultural and pastoral development. I have become involved in the ECPA (parents’ association) and have enjoyed collaborating with other parents willing to contribute to the success of the School. The School’s leadership has encouraged our involvement, forming a stronger sense of community, which will ultimately pay back in terms of our children’s education. The School is also innovative in other ways, such as showing great agility when classroom learning was disrupted and aligning its curriculum to prepare students for IB, University and careers.

The decision that our kids will study at ECP was one of the best we have ever made. I really appreciate how ECP teachers constantly inspire students to get the most out of them and help them to discover their talent. Although the school is quite demanding, I like that it teaches students to work hard while always being positive and motivating.
