Irena Smetánková

PA to Deputy Head Pastoral Manager of Czech Ed. Matters

Irena graduated from Charles University where she read Asian and African Studies. She later did research into African Linguistics at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, gaining her PhD. After 1989 she briefly lectured at Charles University.

Since 1996,  Irena  has  lived in various countries around the world, mainly in Asia, as  the “trailing spouse” of a Czech diplomat. She did a lot of volunteer teaching and was always actively involved in her children’s schools – both in and outside the classroom. She has been part of the ECP community since 2009, first as a parent and, since 2015, also as an employee.  She worked as PA to the Deputy Head Pastoral before moving on to become the Admissions Registrar and also being responsible for Czech Educational Matters. 

After a four-year break, Irena  has returned  to her original position of PA to the Deputy Head Pastoral, combined with Safeguarding. She is again also in charge of Czech Educational Matters. 

In her spare time, Irena is an avid reader and enjoys listening to classical music. She likes hiking and is a golfing addict.

Jade Slee

Teacher Librarian and Teacher of English

Originally from Buckinghamshire in the south-east of England, this is Jade’s first international position. Having been an avid reader and writer throughout her life, she has a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing from the University of Roehampton in London. After graduating, Jade took a year out of education to work and decide what career she wanted to pursue. She quickly realised that teaching was the only profession where she felt she could make a meaningful impact and she completed her PGCE at Goldsmith’s, University of London in 2019.

Jade then returned to Buckinghamshire and worked as an English teacher, where she developed a passion for literacy in all its forms, developing the use of Accelerated Reader within her school as well as being part of an in-school AI research group. After five years, she decided to broaden her horizons and to look for a job outside the UK.

Away from work, Jade is a self-described “massive nerd”. She enjoys cooking, learning about history, crafting and is currently trying to solve the notoriously difficult ‘Cain’s Jawbone’ puzzle book.

Stanislava Jirešová

Registrar

Stanislava comes from Eastern Slovakia, but has spent most of her life in the Czech Republic. She graduated from Charles University with an MA in Musicology and the Finnish language. For a few years she enjoyed teaching in a language school and later, worked as a Floor Manager in an international school. Recently, she spent five years in Belgium with her family.

In her spare time, she likes travelling, sightseeing and hiking in the mountains. Long walks in the countryside with her husband and three children bring her peace and joy.

Sára Kuzemková

Morning Receptionist

After graduating from Chislehurst School for Girls in London with A-Levels in French, Applied ICT and English Language, I went to work for the prestigious Joy Fashion House, where I progressed from Sales Adviser to Assistant Supervisor, developing my visual merchandising, organisational and people skills.

In 2017, I left London to study International Business at the Metropolitan University Prague and since then, I’ve worked as a receptionist for Volkswagen Financial Services and for the advertising agency, VCCP, where I was able to learn a lot about the Czech working culture and also to improve my interpersonal skills. Working with people and being able to help them is something I really enjoy.
When I am not working, my passions include writing poetry, singing and spending time with my friends and family.

Martina Filipovičová

Attendance Officer

Martina joined the English College in 2006 as Secretary to the Deputy Headsand subsequently worked as Academic and Examinations secretary.She left on maternity leave in 2013 and, since September 2020 has worked as the school’s Attendance officer. 
Originally from Tabor, she grew up in Prague and before coming to the ECP  worked at the State Social Security Administration Office in Prague.In her spare time she enjoys road-running & dancing, building aquariums and gardening, reading and spending time with her children.

Anna Štrosová

HR Manager

Anna comes originally from Eastern Slovakia. After studying Preschool Pedagogy and Psychology at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in St Petersburg, she worked with children in a psychological counselling centre. 

After moving to Prague in 1992, she started working in Human Resources and at the same time, completed her HR education at the British Institute of Personnel Development in 1996. Anna began her career in the private sector in retail, as a Recruitment Officer, later working as an HR manager for several international companies in the insurance and automotive sectors and, most recently, for a Swiss pharmaceutical company.

She and her husband Dominik spent four years in Brussels, where they had two children who are now studying at King’s College London and the University of Glasgow. She considers the comprehensive development and meaningful education of children to be all parents’ most important contribution.

Anna very much welcomed the opportunity to join the ECP and to return to an educational environment. In her spare time, she enjoys studying, reading, attending theatre and film festivals and getting to know new cities and people. She also likes cycling and yoga.

Libor Jícha

Caretaker

After leaving school, Libor worked for almost 10 years as a zootechnician (animal husbandry) in agriculture. After the Velvet Revolution, he worked in various trades, in particular, the implementation of large-screen projection, which became his lifelong hobby. Since 2009 Libor has been working in education in various positions at the Jedlička Institute, the University of Economics and as a lecturer at a mobile planetarium. In a way, education has grown to his heart. In addition to audio video projection, in his spare time he enjoys archery and climbing and spending time with his children.

PhDr. Milena Brůhová

Examinations Administrator

Milena graduated with a degree in Informatics and was awarded the academic title PhDr from the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University in Prague. Her career started at the Water Research Institute and she continued her studies in Information Science at the University of Economics, then becoming Head of the Branch Information Centre of the Czech Water Management organisation. After marrying a teacher from the USA, she organised English courses and a language school for international companies.

Her return to her original profession began with the Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences and then at the Czech National Library. She went on to work for the Centre of Information and Library Services at the University of Economics. Because she wanted her daughters to speak equally well in both their native languages, she gave them the opportunity to study at the English College in Prague and followed them there, working in the library for five years and since 2013, her work has concentrated on the preparation of all ECP’s examinations and school reports.

Monika Kopová

Accounts Coordinator

Monika acquired her Master´s degree in Economics and Management at The Private University College of Economics Studies. Monika joined the English College in Prague as a receptionist in September 2008 and at the start of 2017 she joined the Bursary team as an Accounts Coordinator. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her children, as well as running, volleyball, reading.

Eva Smith

PA to Deputy Heads, Tutor & Czech Universities (Student Support)

After graduating from the Zlín gymnázium, Eva spent two and a half years in Kent learning English. She came back with the Cambridge Proficiency in English certificate and during the following nine years, worked for Reuters, Vodafone, the Via Foundation and Mondelez International in administrative positions. While on maternity leave she completed a Bachelor’s degree in the History and Literature of English speaking countries.

In 2016 she completed her Master’s degree in the same subjects as well as her teaching qualification. In 2015 she joined the English College in Prague as an assistant to the Deputy Heads. During the summer, she works as an English teacher to young children at a summer camp in the Krkonoše. In her spare time she enjoys reading and jogging.
