Asian Festival 2018 – The English College in Prague on 2.3.2018 at 4.30pm

A ticket for 180Kč for all you can eat on your 1st round (sampling all the cuisines).

You will be able to enjoy a rich variety of oriental cuisine, performances, workshops and more!

We would like to welcome you to the Asian Festival, which is taking place at the English College in Prague for the second time. In previous years you’ve had the chance to try out some traditional Vietnamese dishes and watch many dancing performances. For the past two years, however, we have decided to step up our game and so we are making this tradition into one that incorporates food from all around Asia. The money collected will go to a charity providing aid to victims of the poisonous Agent Orange used in the Vietnam war (you can find the link here).

We look forward to seeing you and hope that you will leave the Asian Festival having had a great experience as well as gaining a bit more knowledge about Asian culture.

Price: 180Kč entrance – you will get a card which will be marked once you visit a food stand for the first time, then you can pay extra when you eat more.
What to expect: A lot of food from different parts of Asia (+ vegan and vegetarian), games for you to play and various performances!

ECP graduate studying at Oxford

Studying at Oxford is a truly humbling experience. It is an honour to be a matriculated student of such an amazing institution with an incredibly grand history. It is without a doubt a challenge to keep up with the workload, which includes two to three essays and at least two problem sheets every week, altogether requiring at least 80 hours. In a way, the tasks I have to perform are quite similar to the ones I had to complete at the ECP, so the skills I learned there serve as a crucial basis of my attempt to face the challenges of studying at one of the best universities in the world. Oxford is also a wonderful place for extracurricular activities: I have started learning Mandarin, attending the gym, and also started gaining experience in management consulting. Last but not least, the people in Oxford are extremely welcoming and friendly, and I was quick to make a lot of friends.

Tomas Sedláček at ECP

Lecture by Tomáš Sedláček, well-known Czech economist and university lecturer

Tomáš Sedláček visited the English College this week to share with students his vision for the future. He presented many challenging and controversial opinions. His main theme was what he called “humanomics”, a view of our fate in this world of scarcity, reflecting human stories and philosophies. Mr Sedláček told students that we are moving from “windows” to “doors” to virtual reality. But he concluded by saying that he believed the world would not fail as long as we hold on to love.

Tomáš Sedláček is Chief Macroeconomic Strategist at ČSOB. He is also a member of New Narrative for Europethe EU Commission project established by Manuel Barroso, and a Council Member of the World Economic Forum, focussing on new economic thinking. He has previously served on the Czech National Economic Council and was an economic advisor to the late President Václav Havel from 2001 to 2003.

His book on philosophy, ethics and the history of economics is a bestseller in the Czech Republic. It is also available in English, published by Oxford University Press, as Economics of Good and Evil: The Quest for Economic Meaning from Gilgamesh to Wall Street.
