Lecture by Tomáš Sedláček, well-known Czech economist and university lecturer

Tomáš Sedláček visited the English College this week to share with students his vision for the future. He presented many challenging and controversial opinions. His main theme was what he called “humanomics”, a view of our fate in this world of scarcity, reflecting human stories and philosophies. Mr Sedláček told students that we are moving from “windows” to “doors” to virtual reality. But he concluded by saying that he believed the world would not fail as long as we hold on to love.

Tomáš Sedláček is Chief Macroeconomic Strategist at ČSOB. He is also a member of New Narrative for Europethe EU Commission project established by Manuel Barroso, and a Council Member of the World Economic Forum, focussing on new economic thinking. He has previously served on the Czech National Economic Council and was an economic advisor to the late President Václav Havel from 2001 to 2003.

His book on philosophy, ethics and the history of economics is a bestseller in the Czech Republic. It is also available in English, published by Oxford University Press, as Economics of Good and Evil: The Quest for Economic Meaning from Gilgamesh to Wall Street.
